Cartoons teach us that swallowing keys are perfectly normal ways to keep things safe. 'Real life' teaches us otherwise, a Dallas identity thief was busted and tried to eat stolen debit cards as a way to destroy evidence against him.

According to UPI, the 37-year-old has been convicted on 16 different charges involving identity theft and tax fraud.  When he was arrested in 2011 he had over $300,000 in cash and money orders and numerous stolen debit cards, which "he ate in an attempt to conceal evidence."

I'm still trying to wrap my head around how one would go about eating a debit card without it wreaking havoc on one's insides.

I just hope the poor prosecutors didn't have to 'wait it out' to use the eaten cards as evidence.
