Thief Robs Woman’s Car, Woman Finds His Phone And Calls His His Mom

For some crooks getting in trouble with their parents is a bigger deterrent than getting in trouble with the law. One bumbling burglar dropped his mobile phone in a car while was robbing it, and his victim found it and ratted him out to his own mother.

Nice move!

Now, this crook makes the Dumb Criminal list because he broke into a car and left his cell phone behind. Dumb move. But he does earn some points back because he owned up to his crimes and returned what he stole.  All thanks to a woman who cared more about getting her stuff back than getting him in trouble.

According to KOMO, this Seattle woman had some items stolen from her car but found a mobile phone left behind. Instead of calling police, she scrolled through the phone's contacts and called "Mom".

I said, ‘This is a very uncomfortable phone call to make. I have your son’s phone and I’m missing some things out of my car and I think they might be two related items.’ And she [the mother] was devastated.”

This woman, who must be a far better person than me, didn’t want the 19-year-old thief to get in any trouble, so she went to his house to speak with the boy and his mother, face-to-face.

The boy confessed to stealing items from her car, plus about 10 other cars in the same night. This woman who ratted him out actually convinced him to go to each house to give back what he’d stolen.

Police weren't involved, everyone got their stuff back, and I'm assuming this sticky-fingered teen learned a big lesson.

It's too bad more crime stories can't have endings like this.
