Shaun White, Olympic Snowboarder Arrested For Public Intoxication & Vandalism

Michael Turner wasn’t the only famous athlete to have a case of ‘the stupids’ this week. Two-time Olympic medal-winning snowboarder, Shaun White, was arrested after he got drunk, broke stuff at a Tennessee hotel and pulled a fire alarm.

According to The Denver Channel,

Officers responded to the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel at 2 a.m. Sunday after a drunken man identified as the 26-year-old White pulled a fire alarm, forcing the hotel to evacuate all guests. An employee also reported seeing White destroy a hotel phone.

After refusing the chance to sign misdemeanor citations, White was arrested and charged with public intoxication and vandalism.

I really cannot fathom how some of these famous athletes seem to try and flush their careers down the toilet. If I were paid hundreds of thousands of dollars (if not millions) to play a sport, I would be taking extra caution to walk that straight and narrow until my playing time was up. Most athlete’s careers only last, what, five years? I’m really surprised how many of them can’t even keep their nose clean for that short a period of time.

And to all of them that argue, “Hey, I never signed up to be a role model.” Yes, you did.

No one in our country can get in to a professional sport without the knowledge that they are becoming a role -model to someone.

IF you can't handle being the the spotlight, pro sports are not the place for you.
