Pocket dialing the police is probably not a great idea, especially when you are describing the intimate details of a robbery you just committed and talking about the car you’re riding in.

It sounds too stupid to be true but two men in Madison, Wisconsin were arrested thanks a butt-dial and an ill-timed conversation.

These not-quite-ivy-league bandits had stolen a handful of DVDs and computer games from a Target store. However, while making their getaway one of them had inadvertently called 911 on the phone in his pocket.

An opportunistic dispatch operator listened to and recorded nearly an hour-long conversation in which the men discussed the items they had stolen as well as how and where they could sell the items. For some odd reason these guys even got into a discussion about the vehicle they were driving.

Basically the police had a live play-by-play of what the men were doing and where they were going thanks to the dispatcher.

The crooks decided to sell the stolen goods at a video game store, but police met them there with guns drawn.

According to Channel 3000, when they were taken out of their car one of the suspects asked a police officer, “You guys tap my phone?"

I wonder how hard it was for the officer to not reply with a snide comment along the lines of, “No, you called us…moron.”

If there were a criminal handbook, I think “Don’t call police and tell them what you stole and where you’re going,” would probably be on page one.
