We’ve heard a quite a few stories where car thieves that are foiled because they don’t know how to drive a manual transmission.

But how about this: A San Francisco man tried to steal a taxi cab, but couldn’t figure out how to start the engine. (Little did he know, the engine was already running.)

According to SFWeekly, our cab driver was flagged down around 4:30AM. His passenger pulled out a gun, demanded the cabbie’s money, stole his watch and ordered him out of the car. However, the car thief called the driver back to the car to ask him how to start it.

It was one of those new-fangled hybrid cars that run really quiet. The cab driver explained the engine was already running, so the thief told him to leave again.

Our victim did just that and called police. When they showed up they found the hybrid taxi, still sitting where the driver had been kicked out, with no suspect in sight.

Push-button starters, gas pedals and brake pedals….wow, those hybrids must be hard to drive.
