What is the ‘Selfie’ Capital of the World? Denver Barely Made the Top-100
Do you have one of those friends who is obsessed with "selfies?" (The kind of friend that incessantly posts photos they take of themselves.) You're not alone, but do you know what city has the most people that take selfies in the world?
Time did a study of over 400,000 Instagram photos that were tagged with #selfie to try and determine where the most selfies are coming from. I can proudly say that not one US city made the top-ten and the only city in Colorado that made the list was Denver and it came in all the way at number 77. (Which translates to 35 selfie-takers per 100,000 people.)
The highest selfie-ratio in the world belongs to Makati City and Pasig, Philippines. Their ratio was nearly seven-times higher than Denver's at 258 selfie takers per 100,000 people.
That's a lot of selfies.
Selfies have made a lot of press lately, the word 'selfie' was added to the Oxford dictionary in 2013, a girl was busted after illegally taking a selfie with a dead body at a cadaver lab, a new sitcom called "Selfie" is coming to ABC, and the act of taking selfies might be spreading lice. Yuck.
I don't love selfies, but I don't hate them either. They have their time and place. However, if you post daily (or hourly) selfies in every outfit you own and at every restaurant you go to...I've probably already hidden you in my newsfeed.
