Seen These Pix? The Broncos New Video Board Is Coming Together Nicely
The Denver Broncos' new ownership group is wasting no time in updating their "new" 20-year-old stadium. Part of the $100 million in updates is the massive new video/scoreboard, which is currently being built. Here are some construction update pictures.
Denver Broncos Mile High Stadium Updates
Even with the rumors of a new stadium coming at some point, the Denver Broncos' new ownership announced that they will be investing more than $100 million in upgrades to the current Empower Field at Mile High this off-season. Considering the stadium cost $400 million in 2001, which is roughly $652 million in 2022, you'd think some pretty significant changes are on the horizon, but the changes announced aren't all that exciting considering it's the largest amount of money spent on improvements since it opened in 2001.
The coolest part of the new Mile High upgrades, to me anyway, is the amazing new video/scoreboards that they're investing in. While all three video boards will be upgraded, the most noticeable will be the expanded south endzone video/scoreboard which is said to be expanded by 70%. The new board will be 72 feet tall by 225 wide, which is about 31 feet taller than the current board, making it the fourth-largest screen in any NFL stadium. They're not just reusing the current scoreboard casing like the last update, they tore down the existing Southend scoreboard and are completely rebuilding it. It's going to be massive. Here are some pictures that the Broncos posted of the current construction.
Here are some bigger views of those above pictures to really help get you excited.
For comparison, here's what the video/scoreboard looked like when the stadium was first built, below.
And this is how it was just last season after they converted it to the new LED board back in 2013.
Huge difference, right? And this new board is set to be a 70% increase? I literally cannot wait to see it. Mile High is hosting Supercross and Monster Jam at the beginning of May so maybe we'll see a sneak peek of it then. It will for sure be ready for Broncos preseason this August.
