Pitbull May Be Headed to Alaska Walmart After Hometown Campaign Fails
It’s looks like Pitbull will have to swap his swim trunks for a winter coat because he could be headed to Alaska. Thirteen days ago, a Walmart contest on Facebook began which promised to send the international rapper to the “most-liked” store in the United States. This prompted an online prank to send him to a Walmart in Kodiak, Alaska — and a subsequent campaign from his hometown of Miami to keep him in the 305.
We have never heard of Kodiak, Alaska either. After further research, we found out that it’s a small town with a population of 14,000 people (most likely Pitbull fans — we’re kidding!) and can only be reached by plane or boat. Plus, the town is also populated with bears. Compared to Miami’s 80-degree sunny weather and sandy beaches, Kodiak, Alaska will certainly give Mr. 305 the chills.
According to Miami New-Times, the Internet campaign #exilepitbull was started by Boston writer David Thorpe and SomethingAwful.com with the goal to send Pitbull to the bear-infested locale. Fans of Pitbull have stepped in, however, with their counter-campaign #KeepPitbull305 to thwart Thrope’s plan to send him to the remote town of Kodiak.
Unfortunately, it looks as if the #KeepPitbull305 movement has failed to save Mr. Worldwide from his icy fate. With only one day remaining (July 15) to vote, Kodiak’s Walmart store has secured over 72,000 Likes on Facebook while the store in Hialeah Gardens, Fla., has just over 1,000 Likes.
Uh oh! Pitbull better pack his thermal underwear for his frosty trip. At least he will have a travel buddy as Thorpe is planning to join Mr. International on his journey to the Big North. Happy travels, fellas!
