Is A Major Airline Moving Its Headquarters To Colorado?
Colorado could soon be the new home to one of the world's largest airline companies. Would their move to town mean cheaper flights on this historically more expensive airline?
Major Airline HQ Coming To Colorado?
Flying in and out of DIA is always kind of a racquet, but it has been more hectic than usual in the last few years due to construction. It's been full of closures and ugly construction walls for what feels like forever.
While we get closer to the (hopeful) end of the construction, is a shiny new headquarters planned for this airline giant? Seems like a real possibility ...
United Airlines Moving Their Headquarters To Denver?
Back in the summer of 2023, United Airlines purchased a 133-acre plot of land near Denver International Airport for north of $30 million. They claimed that it would be used for a new training facility, but they already have a training facility in Colorado near Central Park on Quebec Street that they just sunk $100 million into in the last two years, so that doesn't make much sense, does it?
Plans submitted to the city of Denver from United Airlines have their new campus being built right near 64th Ave and Tower Road. And while an official deal has not been confirmed, these are steps towards a potential move from Chicago to Denver for United.
The new campus on Tower Road will house some flight simulators for training purposes, but will also house additional United Support staff as well. The goal for the completed project is 2027. The campus will accommodate nearly 5,000 employees, roughly how many people United Airlines employs at their current Chicago location, which furthers the speculation that a move is on the way.
Jimmy Kimmel United Airlines Commercial Spoof
While United executives have publically stated to WGN News in Chicago that a move isn't "imminent," it certainly feels like the wheels are in motion. With so many Chicago employees to be left high and dry if they re-located, we wouldn't expect a full public confirmation until their full plan is in place.
If United's HQ being based in Colorado means more and cheaper flights, then I say welcome home, United!
