Gunman Shot by Greeley Police Early Saturday Morning
Greeley Police shot an armed Evans man early Saturday morning. He later died from the gunshot wounds.
As the Greeley Tribune reported, at 1:37 a.m. early Saturday morning, police responded to a report of a man with a gun. Officers contacted the man at that location, and shots were fired.
The gunman, Victor Hernandez, 21, of Evans, was wounded. He was treated on scene and taken to North Colorado Medical Center, police reported. He has died as the result of his wounds at NCMC.
No officers were injured during the gunfire.
It is still under investigation on why the gunman was on the street Saturday morning, as well as what led to the shooting. However, it wasn’t Hernandez’s first brush with the law. He has had several encounters with law enforcement in Greeley. He was out on a $75,000 bond on charges of burglary, assault and violating a restraining order in connection with a domestic violence case. According to Colorado court records, he was scheduled to appear again in Weld District Court for an advisement hearing on June 30.
The incident is under investigation by the Greeley Police Department and the Weld County District Attorney’s Office.
