The population in Fort Collins has boomed, but the amount of crime has fallen over the past decade according to Fort Collins Police Services data.

In 2008, the department reported 4,923 total crimes of homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft and arson. That number fell to 3,915 in 2018 — the only time of the past 10 years the number of reported crimes has been below 4,000. The only category to increase from 2017 was the number of aggravated assaults.

The number of crimes in the past decade peaked in 2009 when there were 4,989 reported.
