Tuesday night, Katy Perry made a stop at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield as part of her "California Dreams Tour." Derek and I were lucky enough to see it all up close and personal. We have some great pictures to share, some great video, and we met the pop-phenomenon backstage.

I have to say it was one of the most entertaining concerts I have ever seen. Lots of costumes, lots of stage props, lasers, pyrotechnics, video screens, and a sold out crowd screaming the whole time. Follow the link to read all about it and see the pics and vids.

Kitty Purry, Derek, Katy Perry, and Beano

Being as lucky as I am to work in the music business I get to meet a fair share of bands. Some are very nice, others, not-so-much. But when I see them behind the scenes, I’m always reminded that they are just normal people. Even so, I was a little star struck at the idea of meeting Katy. It's not often you meet one of the biggest names in pop-music at the height of their stardom. (If "T.G.I.F. goes to number #1, Katy Perry could have the biggest album in history.)Turns out she is one of the most down-to-earth, friendly, and sincere celebrities I've ever met. Very personable and very...real.

Her performance didn't disappoint either. Huge video screens were used to keep the pace moving between songs and created a "story" for the show. There were lots of lights and lasers, a huge Candyland-esque set, a big cast of characters, singers, and dancers, and more wardrobe changes than I've ever seen in my life.

Katy had at least a dozen different major costume changes, but not once were we waiting around with nothing going on on stage. And when she performed "Hot and Cold" she actually had her dress "change" six or seven times. Yes, six or seven times during one song. Madness!

Katy Perry Gets 'Crunk'

She also broke it down for a bit with she brought her band up front and got 'crunk' with acoustic covers of "Only Girl (In the World)", "Whip My Hair", "Friday", and "Big Pimpin'."

There were mimes, fireworks, a giant pedestal erupting out of the stage, Katy riding a 'cloud' over the audience to get up-close and personal with fans in the 'cheap seats'. She made a 17-year-old boy's life when she pulled him on stage and planted a big ole kiss on his cheek, and let him return the favor. She had one young girl come on stage and take a 'Facebook Picture' with her. She pulled a slew of screaming fans on stage during a cover of "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" and danced with an adorable little girl. Check out the video of that.

The finale was "California Girls", and to end the night Katy brought out a candy-cane foam cannon and hosed down the crowd while silvery-glitter confetti fell from the roof and giant beach balls were tossed in the mix. All that, while a sold out crowd was screaming along. Derek and I looked like we'd been tarred a feathered with glittery-goodness. In fact I was still finding glitter stuck to things the next afternoon.

What's it like to six in the first six rows of a Katy Perry show? You might get wet. Check out the video.

I could describe all of the craziness that went on Tuesday night, but I think the pictures in the gallery above really tell a better story. You can also see some of the video highlights from Derek here.

Katy Perry cemented herself as one of, my favorite pop-stars ever. And put on a show that enthralled Katy Perry fans, and (I think) would still entertain even most non-Perry fans.

Were you there? What did you think?
