Many, many people in Colorado love a banana. Kids and adults, both, love them as a quick snack. The huge banana producer's product needs to be pulled from markets; until then, we just need to stop buying.

There are other produce companies providing the healthy, easy-to-eat fruit; so, it's time that Coloradans take a stand, and say, "Your bananas are not worth what you've done."

Maybe I'm alone in my opinion, but I don't think so,

In case you missed the news, on June 11, 2024, Chiquita was found to be involved in the deaths of thousands in Columbia dating back to a timeframe between 1997 and 2004, when Chiquita had banana plantations in Columbia, during a civil war there.

A  federal jury in Florida found that Chiquita was guilty of funding a paramilitary group that killed thousands of people in Columbia. Chiquita, currently headquartered in Florida, gave the paramilitary group $1.7 million dollars over the seven years. According to the AP, Chiquita was ordered to pay over $38 million to 16 family members of those killed.

Chiquita's defense was that the money was similar to extortion, as the paramilitary group was violently threating Chiquita's operations in the area. However, in 2007, the U.S. charged Chiquita with "engaging with a foreign terrorist group," over this money, and Chiquita pleaded guilty, paying a $25 million fine.

While Chiquita no longer has operations in Columbia, it doesn't erase the fact that they put human life above profit, as two courts have ruled.

So, in my opinion, we need to cease buying bananas with that cute Chiquita sticker.
