They say "All good things to an end," but that doesn't make you feel any better about places that you've loved for decades going away. Be it a restaurant, a place of entertainment, or somewhere you've enjoyed shopping at over the years, it always sucks saying goodbye.

In a sad farewell, one of Colorado's most beloved stops for readers of all ages is closing its doors after nearly 30 years in business. Nestled in the heart of Longmont, this popular book emporium has been more than just a bookstore. It has served as an escape for book lovers, and a cornerstone of the Downtown Longmont community.

Since 1996, The Used Book Emporium in Longmont, Colorado, has been a community staple for nearly three decades. Sadly, the family has decided to retire and move on to the next chapter.

In a statement on their website, the family said:

After over 28 years in business, we have decided it is time to retire. We have been unable to sell the business, but the property has been sold. Our last day of business will be October 15. We will continue to take in books for trade, but with the understanding that all credit will need to be used by October 15.
No word on what the folks who bought the property plan to do with it, but it seems clear that it will not have anything to do with books, which leaves a huge void in the hearts of local readers all over the area.
I overheard my 16-year-old daughter explaining to my 7-year-old son why this book emporium was so special, especially to massive reading fans like her.
To Carol, Linda, Debbie, and the entire family, thank you for helping bring these pages to life for so many years in our community. You will be missed.
