Bike to School Day is Wednesday, May 4
May is National Bike Month and to celebrate, nearly one hundred schools in Colorado will be participating in Bike to School Day on Wednesday, May 4.
"This year's participation in Bike to School Day is as exciting as ever," said Leslie Feuerborn, manager of CDOT's Safe Routes to School Program, in a statement. "The excitement and support for events across Colorado from Durango to Idalia and from DeBeque to Campo and all along the Front Range is inspiring, and we couldn't be more pleased with how many communities and families are coming together to promote safe biking to school on this one day."
Bike to School Day events help raise awareness of the need for safer routes for cycling and walking, and also emphasize the importance of physical activity and health among children. CDOT says the events are organized to build connections between families, schools, and the community as a whole.
While motorists should always be cognizant of cyclists (and vice versa), they should be extra aware of an increase in cyclists on this day.
