Walk Through A Weld County Ghost Town, 30 Miles From Greeley

If you head about 30 miles east down U.S. 34 from Greeley, you'll run into a Weld County ghost town.

Dearfield was founded in the early 1900's as a a predominantly African-American settlement and pretty much has been abandoned since the Great Depression era, according to the Coloradoan.

There is still a diner, a gas station and the founder's home left standing...and that's about it. Apparently, when the wind blows through the town, you can here the former town's founder, Oliver T Jackson's voice in the distance. (Ok, I made that last part up, but it sounds creepy, right?)

I'll be bringing the fam out there for a little day trip soon.

Anytime is a fun time to check out a ghost town, especially in October when the leaves turn colors, the weather gets cooler and creepier, and Halloween approaches.
