Loveland could have an IMAX theater by mid-2021, according to the Reporter Herald.

Information about the development was leaked when some microphones were left un-muted during a confidential meeting in the Loveland City Council chambers.

MetroLux could receive a $250,000 city incentive for the project, including a $200,000 cash payment and up to $50,000 in use tax and fee waivers, Loveland Economic Development Director Kelly Jones told the council.

The proposed IMAX theater is known as "Project Big" and talks of the theater have apparently been in the works since 2019, according to Jones.

The closest IMAX theaters to Loveland are in Westminster and Broomfield.

I though this was interesting, if the Loveland IMAX deal goes through then it will prohibit other IMAX theaters from opening within five miles of Metrolux for the next 10 years.

The IMAX would require the deconstruction of two of the theaters at Metrolux to make room for the 70-foot screen.
