It's weird to think of an afternoon where you can't see what's happening on Oprah.  She has been part of afternoons for as long as I can remember, technically 25 years, but I don't know exactly where my memories start.  I like Oprah.  I feel like she managed to keep it "real" all these years.  We know about Oprah's pooping habits, how much she loves her dogs, what she cooks for her boyfriend, that her and Gayle are not romantic lovers, we know her favorite things and of course we know how much she has struggled with her weight.  Anytime someone is as famous as Oprah there are haters and people who can't stand this or that, but I always appreciated how Oprah balanced all her "look at me" moments with doing amazingly positive shows that touched thousands of lives with knowledge, encouragement and pure human connection.  She's an empire and that is truly amazing. Thanks Oprah!

If you want to know more about Oprah's new cable network called OWN, this Time.com article had a nice little rundown.  I agree that this network will never have the power of an hour of Oprah herself, but it'll pass the time on a lazy afternoon.
