If you've looked at the mountains at all today, or over the weekend you can see a lot of smoke coming from an area near Estes Park. All of that smoke is from the Fern Lake Fire, which has been burning in Rocky Mountain National Park since October 9th.

A new wildfire is spewing smoke in Rocky Mountain National Park, near Estes Park, Colorado. According to the Coloradoan, air support was called to help contain the fire this afternoon. At 6pm, Rocky Mountain National Park tweeted that the fire has grown to over 300 acres and is heading north toward the Ute trail.

***3:15pm UPDATE*** According to the Coloradoan, at least 16 homes have been destroyed in what they are calling the "Woodland Heights Fire".  20-acres have been lost so far and everyone within a 1-mile radius is being evacuated. The fire is burning entirely in the Estes Park town limits, near the Beaver Meadows Entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park.

Progress. The High Park Fire, which has burned an estimated 46,600 acres and is at 10% containment, covered Northern Colorado with a blanket of smoke this morning. But in some what good news some residents are being allowed home. Residents in the Shoreline Drive area and the Bellvue area from County Road 27E to the east will be allowed back into their homes later today after the citizen briefing

The High Park Fire continues to grow and move closer to Fort Collins. Firefighters are working hard to defend the homes from fire. Battalion Chief, Mike Gavin, says that there is little chance that the fire could move into Fort Collins. But the fire has been throwing debris about a half mile away from the flames and there is potential that one of the open spaces or natural areas could ignite. Read
