Many are wondering how Sunday's snowfall affected the Cameron Peak Fire.

Fortunately, we have some great news to share in that regard.

Operations Section Chief Paul Delmerico said the snow across the entire fire area was "a huge plus for all of the firefighters who have been engaged for the past 76 days," as reported by the Cameron Peak Fire Facebook page on Monday morning.

Fire officials said that snowfall from Sunday and Monday will "significantly diminish fire behavior in the short term but may not be enough to end fire season for the year."

There was no fire growth on Sunday and fire crews expect that trend to continue through Monday, as the forecast predicts a 70 percent chance of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Around 9:45 a.m. on Monday, the Incident Information System shared that the Cameron Peak Fire has reached 64% containment with 208,663 acres burned.

According to fire officials, firefighters will continue to work on the Cameron Peak Fire, but because of wind chill and road conditions they likely will not be on the front lines on Monday, as reported by the Cameron Peak Fire Facebook page.

Sunshine and dry skies are expected to resume on Tuesday, which could lead to fire expansion.
