Let me start by saying, I know you will tell me we should buy a FURminator, the problem is not the brush, it's actually making the time to brush the dog.  Now, let's talk about "the dog".  His name is Scout, he is loyal/obsessed with my husband ever since my husband adopted him 5 years ago.  Scout is a Border Collie and Husky mix.  Both of those breeds shed and lose an undercoat of hair a couple times a year aka "blowing coat".  So twice a year when he "blows" out his undercoat, you can literally pluck out bushels of hair.  There is always dog hair on my hardwood floors, just part of owning dogs, but during these not so special times of the year, I find hair wads everywhere, or what we call "Baby Scouts" running around, see images above.

According to a random answer on WikiAnswers "There are roughly 15,500 hairs per square inch on the back of an average dog."  I couldn't find any hard facts on the actual number of hairs a dog like Scout loses when his coat is blowing out, but I would assume it's in the several thousand range.  That makes you realize why some people collect and use dog hair for fabric. In fact there is a whole website called VIP Fibers to help you figure out how to put animal hair to good use.

I filmed the pathetic actions of Scout as he knows he is going to get brushed

After a good brushing Scout always has a boost of happy energy
