Poudre School District Superintendent Outlines Goals for 2020
The Poudre School District (PSD) is an important part of Northern Colorado, and they've got big plans for 2020.
Superintendent Sandra Smyser, Ph.D. revealed the district's goals for the new decade, covering everything from teaching tactics to mental health.
Despite the fact that the district's test scores are high, Smyser wants to see them increase. PSD's graduation rates dropped in 2019, and she wants to get them up.
The district is expanding in the next decade, thanks to a $375 million bond for the construction of three new schools, including a new middle/high school in Wellington.
PSD will also use money from a 2019 mill levy override (MLO) to increase first-year teacher salaries and hire mental health/safety/security personnel.
Speaking of mental health, the district is sharpening their focus on students' well being. On top of hiring new personnel, PSD will implement additional training and mental health services for students and their families.
The district is also strengthening their Early Child Education program. Not to leave the high school students out, PSD is honing in on their career-readiness program through the Futures Lab.
"What I've shared here is but a glimpse of the tremendous work happening in service of our 30,000 students across PSD," said Smyser. "We're proud of that, and we continue to set the bar higher — for our students and staff."
This new decade is going to be bright for the Poudre School District.
