There is a new king in the fast food world. (Well, the entire restaurant world, not just fast food.) Subway has officially surpassed McDonald’s as the world’s largest restaurant chain, in terms of units. You won't believe how many Subway locations there are.

McDonald's

At the end 2010 there were 33,749 Subway restaurants worldwide, and they plan to keep expanding!  McDonald’s has 32,737 restaurants. McDonald’s does still have something Subway does not, the lead in sales. The home of the happy meal reported around $24 billion in revenue last year, compared to Subway's paltry $15 billion and some change.

What did McDonald's have to say about no longer being the world's largest food chain?

“We remain focused on listening to and serving our customers, and are committed to being better, not just bigger."

That all in the full story from Indiana News Center.

This isn't too surprising as I'm fairly certain I  pass 2-3 locations of each of these restaurants every time I drive.  And they do good work, for what they are.  When you walk in under those golden arches, or next to the cardboard cut-out of Jared, you know exactly what you're getting into. I guess that translated to worldwide domination.

What is your favorite food chain?
