More Closures Along I-25 This Week That Could Affect Your Drive
More I-25 construction in Colorado has some closures set for this week that could potentially affect your commute both north and southbound. Here's when and where to avoid these closures.
Avoid These Closures Along I-25 This Week In Colorado
You might remember, but I personally don't remember a time when I-25 wasn't a complete disaster. I grew up in the Northglenn, Thornton, Westminster, Colorado area, so we'd use I-25 a lot but I don't recall our main interstate ever being a "peaceful" commute. When I moved to Northern Colorado in 2005, the drive to or from Ft. Collins was almost always slow and frustrating. The improvements they were making that messed up the traffic would eventually make it better, but here we are in 2023 and it's more frustrating than ever. Even when these new "Express Lanes," the I-25 experience is likely still going to be bad. We're just growing too fast in the area and cannot seem to keep up. More construction and lane realigning are set for this week that could snarl up your drive if you don't avoid it.
I-25 and Highway 119 Closures In Colorado
As the "Firestone-Longmont Mobility Hub" project rolls on, crews will need to realign the north and southbound off-ramps. To do that, the following closures are set for this week according to a press release from CDOT.
On Wednesday, March 22, the Northbound I-25 exit at Hwy 119/Exit 240 will be closed from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. for paving, striping, and barrier setting. In addition, from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., the right lane of I-25 will be closed from mile markers 239 to 241 for barrier setting on the right shoulder.
On Thursday, March 23, the Southbound I-25 exit at Hwy 119/Exit 240 will be closed from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. for striping for realignment and barrier setting. Also from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., the right lane of I-25 will be closed from mile markers 242 to 239.5.
Anytime there are lane or exit closures, I-25 is almost unbearable unless it's overnight, and even then it can create quite the traffic jam as I-25 is always busy for the most part these days. Plan accordingly and save the extra frustration on your way to or from work etc. this week. Now, from things to avoid, to things you have to try...
