Mom Wakes Up Blind, All Because Of What She’s Drinking
A mom of 3 in Northern Ireland was recently diagnosed with idiopathic intracranial hypertension, a condition that doctors say is a result from being overweight and having a diet consisting of 28 cans of Red Bull.
Lena Lupari, 26, has completely cut out Red Bull from her diet and has lost about 30 pounds since being hospitalized on June 18. Her doctors say she has to lose around 100 pounds before her symptoms will go away.
Lupari had been consuming over 3,000 calories and 2,240 milligrams of caffeine daily through 28 cans of the popular energy drink.
She says she was unaware of the damage she had done to her body until she collapsed in June.
Red Bull says on its website that no more than 400 milligrams should be consumed in a day to avoid potential negative side effects of caffeine, which researchers have linked to risk of vision loss and blindness.
Scientists have also found a connection between life-threatening blood clots, heart attacks, and Red Bull.
