Memorial Day is Monday May 25, 2015 and there are plenty of opportunities to honor those who have made this country a place of freedom and choice. One opportunity is in Windsor, Colorado with the American Legion.

Memorial Day is a Federal holiday, a day set aside to honor those who have given their  lives to our country, celebrated on the last Monday of May each year.Just to be clear, Memorial Day is to honor those who have passed and Veterans Day is to honor all who have served.

The town of Windsor has announced that the American Legion will host a Memorial Day Ceremony at Lakeview Cemetery to honor veterans who have been laid to rest in Windsor. The ceremony is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Memorial Day, May 25, 2015. The event will feature a flag ceremony, comments and the placement of the memorial wreath by the American Legion.The guest speaker this year will include retired Army Special Forces Major Diggs Brown. Windsor Mayor John Vasquez will also participate in the ceremony.

Before the ceremony, the American Legion will offer a free breakfast to all veterans from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Non-veterans can purchase a breakfast plate for $5.

After the ceremony, they will host a lunch at 624 Ash Street in Windsor. The will be offering hamburgers or hot dogs with baked beans, coleslaw and chips for $6 per plate.

As a special note and reminder, the American Legion can help properly dispose of any flags that have served their purpose and are tattered, torn or faded.
