A new Greeley school that will house Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth Grade classes come fall 2022 needs a name.

The Greeley-Evans School District 6 is accepting submissions from the public through 4 p.m. on Sept. 10 to name the school that will be built at 71st Avenue, between 4th Street and 10th Street near the Boomerang Golf Course.

This is the first time the school district is soliciting names from the public for a school. Here are the district's naming guidelines:

  • The street on which the school is located
  • The community or area of the city in which the school is located
  • In memory of a famous American (surname only)
  • In recognition of the contribution to education by a resident or family associated with the local community, or an outstanding citizen who is deceased for at least five years (surname only)
  • No two schools in the district shall be given the same name.

The school that will hold about 900 students is being funded by the 2019 $395 million bond approval, according to the Greeley Tribune. The school will have a pre-engineering focus.

The land being used for the new school was acquired via a land swap with Banner Health.
