'Heartless' was the first word that came to my mind when I heard about this dog-sitter who was watching a Mead couple's dog.

According to Fox31 Denver, the dog-sitter simply texted the dog's owners:

Cookie died last night. What would you like me to do, leave the kennel in the garage?

Chills. Seriously, chills. That is cold.

The couple had gotten the sitter from the site, Rover, where folks sign up to watch people's dogs. The couple had even visited this woman's home prior to having her watch their three dogs, one of which was this13-year-old rescue dog.

It's not clear how long the sitter had been taking care of the dogs, but one night she texted the owners that she was going to put Cookie in her kennel and the owners OK'd that, as long as it was for a short while.

Then, the next morning, came the text that Cookie had died. A text. Not a call, a text. To me, even in today's age where nobody really talks on the phone, this is a situation where you have to call the persons involved in such an occurrence.

CSU performed a necropsy and they couldn't determine why the dog had died, though Cookie did have health issues that the owners were aware of. According to Fox31 Denver, Mead Police found no evidence of abuse or neglect.
