Flash Flooding Possible This Evening
After months of above normal heat, below normal moisture, and destructive fires; the potential for heavy rain and flash flooding exists in Northern Colorado for a fourth day in a row. The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch in effect through this evening. Keep an eye on the weather, stay tuned to 99.9 The Point for possible warnings, and visit The Point interactive radar & weather page.
The fire burn areas will be very susceptible to flash flooding today. With 1 to 4 inches of rain having fallen in the past several days, the soil is saturated and any additional rainfall will quickly lead to flash flooding.
Rainfall rates up 2 inches in less than an hour will be possible with the stronger storms this afternoon and evening.
This is a WATCH, not a WARNING. A Flash Flood Watch means that flash flooding is possible, but not imminent. If you are in the watch area you should keep an eye on the weather and be prepared for immediate action should heavy rains and flash flooding occur, or if a Flash Flood Warning is issued.
