Due to Wildfires, Rocky Mountain National Park Closes Indefinitely
After last weekend's dumping of snow, many assumed that national parks would reopen in northern Colorado, and that it would be safe to hike, bike, and enjoy our landscapes again.
However, a recent press release from Rocky Mountain National Park revealed that the reopening date for the park is pending.
Out There Colorado reported that "nearly 29,000 acres of the park were torched, including acreage burnt by both the East Troublesome Fire on the western side of the park and near Estes Park and the Cameron Peak Fire, which damaged a northern portion of the park". This is the most extensive fire damage the park has seen in a century.
The Cameron Peak Fire is currently 85% contained, and the fire sits at 208,913 acres. The East Troublesome Fire is only 37% contained and has spread over 193,774 Acres.
