The 'kids table' or the 'adults table?' Families often tend to split up during holiday meals, delegating an area where the younger members can all sit together and not interrupt the adults' polite, conversation-filled meal.

It's always an awkward time once you reach the age or having to decide on which table you belong at. In fact, as an adult I find  myself still drawn to the kids table and that made me think, "Shouldn't the adult table be just as fun as the kid one?

When most families get together for a big holiday meal like Thanksgiving, there are always more people than chairs around a table, so holiday meals become segregated. Usually one table  ends up becoming the "kids table," where all the youngest members of the family congregate for their meal. While the adults gather around the larger, nicer table to enjoy their meal.

Now, from what I remember of the kid table, there was always lots of laughing and jokes, maybe a little food-throwing, and an atmosphere that was often on par with a birthday party.

Once I was moved to the grown ups' table, there was a lot more awkward silences, a lot more scolding and shooshing, and an almost uncomfortable reverence.

Now, I am not saying my family's (or anyone else's) adult holiday experience is bland or boring. But wouldn't the holidays be that much more fun if everyone could act just like the kids do. Disregarding past issues with other family members, not complaining about the cooking, the driving or the cleaning, and just having a good time with the ones you love?

Don't sign me up for the kids' table, let's let's make the adults' table just as fun!

This whole topic makes me think of one of my favorite NeedToBreathe songs that made my Thanksgiving playlist called "Let Us Love."

Let us love Like we were children

Make us feel Like we're still living

In a world I know that's burning to the ground

Leave your hurting on the road behind you

Let the wind go with you 'til the morning comes

Yeah, your sorrow, no it can't save you

Let's take a lesson from the little ones and show a little love and appreciation this holiday.
