Culpepper & Merriweather Circus Coming to Ault [VIDEO]
Big or small, kids and families love a circus. The Culpepper & Merriweather Circus will be coming to Ault next week bringing a true circus atmosphere.
Come enjoy some cotton candy, tigers, elephants, aerial acts, clowns, magic and everything that makes a circus a circus. Weather permitting, the Culpepper and Merriweather Circus will even offer a Midway with rides, a 22-foot inflatable slide, moon bounce and pony rides.
The circus will be Tuesday, July 21 with performances at 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Ault Fire Station located just West of Ault on the South side of Highway 14.
The Culpepper & Merriweather Circus was started in 1985 by Robert Johnson, Jim Hebert and Curtis Cainan. The three of them actually ran the whole thing by themselves trading off the duties of announcing, performing, concessions etc. for the first year. In fact, they didn't even sell tickets. They passed a hat at the end of each show and relied soley on donations. Over the years, they found their way and were eventually able to add animals, employees and turn it into a real circus.
Another interesting fact is that the Culpepper & Merriweather Circus is now based out of Hugo, Oklahoma there in the Red River valley which is actually known as "Circus City, USA" because they are the 20th circus to call Hugo home since 1941 and are one of three that are currently touring the country from right there in Choctaw County.
Tickets are only $10 for adults, $6 for seniors (65+) and kids ages 2-12 with kids under 2 FREE!
