Gabe Okoye and his girlfriend Brittany Mayti lost 800 of their 880,000 thousand dollars on Fox’s new game show, Million Dollar Money Drop. The problem? They actually answered correctly; the show had their facts wrong.

The question in question? “Which was sold in stores first, Post-It Notes or the Walkman?” the couple bet 800 grand on Post-It Notes and watched all that money drop as the show deemed Walkman the correct answer. But as it turns out, Post-It Notes weren't sold nationwide until after the Walkman but they were in some stores before the Walkman was.

A storm of Internet controversy led to the show inviting the couple to play again, if they wished. They show said they will not give the couple any of the money they lost.

I’m going to have to side with the show on this one. You can search all kind of message boards and see that people are saying the show “owes” this couple hundreds of thousands of dollars. But as this yahoo.com story points out, the couple lost the rest of their money on the very next question. And they still would have had another question to answer after that.

And now I theorize, with as much publicity as this show is getting after the SNAFU, was this just a publicity stunt by Fox to garner some attention for the show? I would think that they could find a better ploy than, “We don’t check our facts,” to get viewers to watch a game show, but it still makes you wonder…
