Bears, they’re so cute — but, let’s face it, they can be dangerous.

They’re also simply part of life here in Colorado. Lately, it seems we’re seeing more and more encounters with our natural neighborhoods, whether it be due to urban growth or the wildfires currently destroying bears' habitat.

It’s important to know what to do if you encounter a bear while on a hike or, like this woman, while simply hanging out at home in your backyard.  

The tips all surround keeping snacks away from bears, thus avoiding intentionally or unintentionally feeding them. CPW says to make sure trash, other aromas and attractions are stored securely inside your home, not left outside or in a car.
