You've probably heard a few of the public service announcements from the Colorado State Patrol about buckling up. Right now the CSP and local law enforcement agencies are heavily enforcing the Click It Or Ticket campaign and trying to increase people using their safety belts at night.

That means you'd better buckle-up! Increased traffic enforcement is taking place from 6 pm to 6 am now through Sunday in 13 Colorado counties; including Larimer and Weld.

The Colorado State Patrol and law enforcement agencies in 12 counties are joining the Click It or Ticket campaign to save lives by increasing seat belt use at night, announced the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT).  Ramped up traffic enforcement will take place between the hours of 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., July 23 – 29 in the following counties: Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Denver, Douglas, El Paso, Gilpin, Jefferson, Larimer, Mesa, Pueblo and Weld.

They are pushing the night time seat belts because nighttime vehicle passengers are the least likely to use their seat belts and the most likely to die in crashes.

According to CDOT, last year in Colorado 137 drivers and passengers were killed in crashes between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. 67%  of those were not wearing seat belts compared to 53% of daytime crash victims that were not buckled.

I always grew up with the mentality that everyone had to buckle up when they were in the car, makes me think maybe they need to bring the Crash Test Dummies back.

Don't be a dummy, buckle up.
