Colorado Sales Tax For Amazon Tossed From Federal Court

If you're anything like me you probably spend too much time and too much money on Amazon. A law was passed in 2010 that would require online retailers like Amazon to start collecting sales tax from Colorado residents.

Well, that law was tossed out of court and for (at least the near future) we will not be paying sales tax for most online purchases.

From the Denver Post:

The law had already been temporarily blocked in federal court last year, but U.S. District Judge Robert Blackburn's ruling Friday permanently handcuffs it.

"I conclude that the veil provided by the words of the act and the regulations is too thin to support the conclusion that the act and the regulations regulate in-state and out-of-state retailers even-handedly," Blackburn wrote in his opinion.

I'm sure changes to on-line sales tax collection will happen in the near future, seeing as how much commerce is moving online. But for now I'm happy that I don't have to shell out a few extra bucks every time I shop on Amazon.

What's your take, should everyone be charged sales-tax for online purchases? Or only at brick-and-mortar stores?
