More Coloradans Admit to Being Hungover at Work

Clearly, Coloradans to enjoy a "drink or two.' Some (perhaps many,) enjoy more than a "drink or two" the night before a workday, and are showing up still a little drunk.

They're not just talking about the Monday after the Super Bowl, when they tell us that Colorado is among the top states with people showing up to work hungover. You probably know of a co-worker who has, or there's a co-worker knows that you have.

Is Colorado full of people who have a drinking problem?

Many, many Coloradans have arrived at work, after a long night of "partying," to face the workday carrying a "mean" hangover. Everything is loud, everything makes you cranky, you're thirsty, and just want to take a nap.

The thing is, when they do a survey such as this, not everyone is just going to lay out the plain truth; so the numbers are probably even higher than they state. When you see these numbers you may take a good hard look at yourself.

An addiction treatment facility did research in 2024 on CDC information along with information from Mental Health America to find how each state is doing when it comes to drinking alcohol excessively and turn up to work the following day feeling sick, i.e. "hungover," and might be in need of support due to "binge" drinking.

What Is 'Binge' Drinking?

Binge drinking is when a woman has more than four drinks in one occasion, and five drinks when it comes to men; and "heavy" drinking describes eight or more drinks (for women) or 15 or more drinks (for men) per week.

Where Does Colorado Rank When It Comes to Coming to Work Hungover?

According to the study, just over 20% of Coloradans have admitted to overconsuming alcohol regularly and therefore arrive at work with a hangover. Of all the 50 states, that number puts Colorado at #6 on the list of states that "need support."

With that 20%, it means that one in every five Colorado workers is showing up to the jobsite, or office, "feeling it" from the night before.
