CDOT Offers Prizes For Motorists Who Avoid Peak Travel Times on I-70

With all the the snow that has been falling in the high country, there are a lot of people planning to make the drive into the mountain this weekend via I-70. To try and alleviate some of the traffic delays the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has announced their "Peak Time Challenge" where motorists could win prizes for traveling during off peak times.

Basically, you just have to document your travel and travel times and send them to CDOT to get in a drawing for "a weekend getaway package including lodging, lift tickets and more at Copper Mountain, Winter Park or Keystone resorts."

Beginning Feb. 22, 2014, the Peak Time Challenge encourages motorists traveling along I-70 to submit stories about how they managed to spend as little time in their car as possible during their trip to/from the mountains.  Stories should highlight mountain activities, peak traffic avoidance, GoI70.com deals and include a photo, capturing minimal traffic to illustrate how changing their peak time improved the commute.

There are all kinds of rules and regulations to follow in order to be eligible, but if you avoid high peak times you could win win a weekend mountain getaway. That's a sweet deal.

(Hopefully you miss peak travel time when you have to go back up I-70 to use your prize. Mmmm, delicious irony.)

Hey, at least they're trying to do something. I'm honestly under-enthused to go into the mountains at all this time of year if I have to be on I-70 on a weekend. I think the last time I came home from Copper it turned into a 5 1/2 hour drive home. Ugh.
