Cameron Peak Fire Grows Past 170,000 Acres
Two fires are causing major air quality concerns for Northern Colorado and for some, evacuations.
The Cameron Peak Fire, thanks to high winds on Friday night (October 16), is only growing larger each day. Officials were concerned with the high winds on Friday evening, and as of Saturday, October 17, the fire spread over 173,536 acres, with the Mullen Fire in Southern Wyoming at 176,840 acres.
Winds are expected to continue this weekend at up to 60 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service Boulder. A very light sprinkling of rain is expected on Sunday, but not enough precipitation to halt the flames. The Cameron Peak fire is 57% contained.
If individuals are concerned for their safety, the Larimer County Sheriff's Office ordered voluntary evacuations for County Road 27 to the Devils Backbone north of Highway 34.
