Cabbage Patch Kids will be invading your house once again sometime soon. According to PopWatch the dolls that sparked fist fights and consumer mobs in the 80’s are getting a brand-spankin’ new TV special.

But I doubt there will be near as much fanfare and department store stampedes as there was in the 80's.

If you were around back then, you know what a Cabbage Patch Doll is and you know all about than pandemonium that erupted when they became one of the hottest and scarcest Christmas gifts in history. Relive those moments through the YouTube video below.

Scary stuff, eh?

I can’t believe anyone would push, trample and shove for anything at a department store, let alone a doll. When I watch those videos it honestly looks like it was staged and those are actors trying to pretend they’re that overwhelmed by doll shopping.  But no, it was real. People were crazy (Let's be honest, they're still pretty crazy).

I remember my sister wanted a Cabbage Patch Kid, but my mother said she would never pay $100 for a doll.  So, she bought a doll head from the craft store, sewed a body and created a makeshift Cabbage Patch Doll that my sister loved for about ten bucks.

I’m sure there are collectors that will now pay hundreds if not thousands for the old dolls, but I think I saw a used one at a Goodwill last month for fifty cents. And I'd bet that someone trampled a little old lady to get their hand on it a few decades ago.

I'm not too surprised that they are trying to cash in again on Cabbage Patch Kids, bringing back anything that was populat once seems to be the Hollywood mantra nowadays.

The Cabbage Patch TV special will be directed by Galen Walker who is already working on yet another live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie due out in 2012.

I wonder how much longer before we see a Get-Along Gang reboot, or how about a live action Thundercats movie? (Who they could get to play Cheetara? Rawr...)
