The Town of Estes Park has reopened but Rocky Mountain National Park remains closed into Halloween weekend.

Officials said in a Friday (Oct. 30) update, that they are unsure of when the park will reopen to the public. The eventual reopening is likely to phased in.

About 29,000 acres of Rocky Mountain National Park has burned between the Cameron Peak and East Troublesome fires. That's the most area that's burned since the park was established 105 years ago.

This is the most acres burned within the park since its establishment 105 years ago.

Thanks to last weekend's dumping of snow, the Cameron Peak Fire's containment continues to grow this week and hopefully into the Halloween holiday, but hot spots within the burn zone of the East Troublesome Fire continue to cause concern for firefighters.

The Cameron Peak Fire media team posted an update October 30, reporting that the Northern Colorado wildfire is officially at 208,663 acres with 64% containment. Over 1,400 personnel are currently fighting the fire.

An East Troublesome Fire hotspot called the "Thompson Zone" is currently burning at 4,346 acres, with 0% containment. This spot fire began on October 22, 2020 and firefighters, as of October 29, were able to access the southern perimeter to begin constructing a fireline. Friday, they are working more on firelines in order to fully contain the Thompson Zone, so that the fire doesn't spread into Estes Park.
