40 Year-Old Mother Receives New Heart Transported To CO Hospital Following Massive Heart Attack

A 40-year-old mother from Colorado Springs, CO is in the midst of the ultimate fight for her life after suffering a major health scare, leaving her in the hands of doctors at a hospital right here in Colorado.

According to KDVR, the Colorado Springs mother - 40-year-old Chantelle Flick Sharketti - suffered a heart attack last Wednesday while at her home; once she realized what was happening, Sharketti reportedly called her husband and parents in a panic.

“She was by the front door struggling to breathe,” Chantelle’s mom, Chenoa Flick, told KDVR.

It was later confirmed that Chantelle hadn't been suffering from just any kind of heart attack - this was a major one.

“We were told that she has the worst of the worst case, and we were not given much hope,”  Cierra Brown, Chantelle's sister said.

A Second Chance At Life

After being admitted to the hospital, Chantelle and her family found out that, based on her current health state along with her age, she'd be placed at the top of the heart donor-recipient list.

“It truly is a miracle,” Rachael Flick, Chantelle's sister-in-law told KDVR.

Just days after her massive health scare, on Sunday (May 22), a heart was transported to the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO for Chantelle, in an effort to give Chantelle a second chance at life.

The 40-year-old Colorado Springs mother was reportedly scheduled to undergo a heart transplantation surgery at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus last Sunday.

No Strangers To Tragedy

As if a massive health scare, like Chantelle's described above, wasn't enough to shake up a family, tragedy is nothing new to face for the Flick-Sharketti family; KDVR says that Chantelle's brother, El Paso County Deputy Micah Flick, was shot and killed back in 2018.

“It’s been the most tragic, heart-wrenching experience we’ve ever been through,” Chantelle's mom recalled.

Now, Chantelle's loved ones are praying they don't lose her.

“We’re trusting and believing for a miracle that she’ll be fine, that she’ll be home soon,” Sgt. Kalani Sharketti, Chantelle's husband told KDVR.
