Valentine's Day can be a controversial holiday. Some look forward to ramping up the romance with their significant others, while others dread the constant heart-shaped reminders of their single status.

Personally, I think the holiday is what you make it. Regardless of your relationship status, there are plenty of ways you can make the day fun for you and show your loved ones how much you care (Galentine's Day, anyone?).

Thankfully, Colorado is a great place to spend Valentine's Day. In fact, ProMoverReviews recently compiled a list of the most romantic destinations in the U.S., and the Centennial State popped up three times.

Here are the spots they recommend for Feb. 14:

Loveland Sweetheart Festival | Loveland

Love is literally in the name. How could the Sweetheart City not make the list? According to visitlovelandco.org, the Sweetheart Festival is returning to Downtown Loveland on Friday, Feb. 11 and Saturday, Feb. 12.

This year's free extravaganza will feature the Tunnel of Love, the Palace of Sweets, the Loveland Pub and Beer Hall, and more. Find an event schedule and vendor information here.

Garden of the Gods | Colorado Springs

What could be more romantic than taking a stroll through the Garden of the Gods? If you really want to up the ante, ProMoverReviews recommends scheduling a guided horseback tour (you can do that with Academy Riding Stables).

It's also just a great place to explore and take pictures. You can visit the park daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Wine & Chocolate Tasting | Estes Park

Full disclosure: the Town of Estes Park has canceled this year's Wine and Chocolate Festival due to COVID-19. However, that doesn't mean you can't create your own tour of the mountain town.

Peruse through downtown before stopping at the local Snowy Peaks Winery for a wine and chocolate tasting.
