A shooting near the University of Northern Colorado on May 3 was the result of a weed deal gone bad, according to the Reporter Herald.

Police say they responded to a call at the 1200 block of 18th Street on May 3, where they found a 17-year-old dead with a gunshot to his chest. The teen is not being named because he is under the age of 18.

The other man, Austin "AJ" Nielsen (22) was found near 11th Avenue, where the juvenile had shot him in the head while he was sitting in his vehicle.

Police say that during a marijuana transaction, there was a dispute over the "amount and cost" of the pot. The teen then pulled out a handgun and pointed it at Nielsen. Nielsen immediately pulled out his gun and they both fired simultaneously.

The juvenile stumbled up the street, fell to the ground and died. When Nielson was shot, his foot pushed down on the gas pedal, causing his car to continue toward 11th street until it crashed into parked cars.

Nielsen was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.
