Even though Colorado legalized marijuana we confirmed that you can't use food stamps to buy pot. However, as of today, Colorado will not ban the use of government-issued EBT cards at ATMs located in pot shops.

Is it just me or is the word 'loophole' now fluttering through your mind?

According to 9News,

A Colorado Senate committee voted 3-2 Wednesday to reject the GOP proposal to add marijuana shops to the list of places where recipients of public assistance can't use their government-issued EBT cards to access cash. The list already includes casinos, liquor stores and gun shops.

Now, I understand that a ban on an ATM inside a pot shop doesn't stop someone from accessing an ATM across the street and using that money in the store, but I think this whole issue is going to be argued and discussed and changed multiple times before the powers that be figure out what works (or what doesn't work).

I'm not a politician, a sociologist, or in aw-enforcement, so I am no expert. However, it seems that adding ATMs that are inside of shops where they can't be used to the banned list would make sense. (There are also probably pages and pages of rules and regulations involving food stamps, the EBT cards, SNAP, and other kinds of government assistance that I know little to nothing about that could be affected by rulings such as this, but that's a wormhole I don't want to dive in to right now.)

The idea of, "You can't use that EBT card here, but you can use that in the ATM right there and use the cash," seem a tad asinine. (As does, "You can't use it at a liquor store, a casino, or a gun shop, but at a marijuana dispensary? Sure, go ahead."

Maybe I'm wrong, or maybe I just don't understand all the details. What do you think?
