Fellow Whovians rejoice. We've all known the The Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special is happening on November 23rd, but we won't have to wait for it to air in our own time zones. The special will be simulcast at the same time around the globe.

As any 'Doctor Who' fan following the series well knows by now, the 2013 Christmas special will see fan-beloved Matt Smith departing the role in favor of 12th Doctor Peter Capaldi but how long will Who-vians have to wait until the proper season 8 premiere? The moment 'Doctor Who' fans learned that Matt Smith would leave behind the iconic role at the end of 2013, the race began to see who would pick up the Sonic Screwdriver. I'll admit it, I was a late comer to Doctor Who. I just started watching it on Netflix this year, but have become a full-blown addict. At the 2013 Denver Comic Con we not only saw a big blue Tardis, but a plethora of dressed up Doctors, companions, Daleks, weeping angels and the like. We even found a faceless Rose! (And, of course, more 'Who' merchandise than I could comprehend.)

Sad news for 'Doctor Who' fans, as the beloved 11th Doctor, Matt Smith, has officially announced his decision to end the series. Smith's departure, of course, means the search has begun for a 12th Doctor to be introduced at the end of the year, but what does series showrunner Steven Moffat have to say about Smith's leave?

Not so, according to new sources, but should we really fret the special won't be exciting enough as is?

I make no qualms about my Doctor Who fandom in the past, so I know this is news that "Whovians" will appreciate.  Scientists at Dundee University saw the Doctor's trademark gadget, the sonic screwdriver, and said, "Hey, we can do that."  So they did.  They built a real sonic screwdriver!

I'm not afraid to admit that I kept Netflix, despite the price hike, in part because I couldn't picture living without constant access to one of my favorite shows from the U.K., Doctor Who. Now it appears that I, and my fellow "Whovians," have cause for excitement; because the Doctor will soon be given the silver screen treatment.
