Traffic in Colorado seems to get worse by the day, but when you add in crazy daytime lane closures it can completely ruin your daily commute and seriously delay your drive. This current project on Harmony Road is a complete nightmare for commuters.

Rapidly Growing Colorado Traffic

Boen and raised in Colorado, close to the Denver Metro area, I'm no stranger to busy roads and crazy traffic. While it has grown substantially from when I was a kid, colorado's traffic has always been troublesome.

The population continues to grow as it seems everybody wants to live in Colorado, and we can't blame them, it's gorgeous here in our state. Add in the rapid population growth, with poorly planned road construction and you're in for a long drive.

Colorado's Harmony Road Construction Project

Starting today, April 29th, 2024, a large roadwork construction project has begun on Harmony Road in Fort Collins. While a "simple" repair and resurfacing project, it's already had quite an impact on traffic in the area.

The construction is happening just west of Timberline down Harmony Road to Strauss Cabin Road. The closures across that stretch of Harmony mean what is normally 3-4 lanes is now closed down to one lane of traffic.

What would normally be a headache drive with all lanes open on one of Fort Collins' busiest streets has turned into a complete nightmare during that entire stretch. Fortunately today, the lanes opened back up at Ziegler, but it won't likely be long until the other half is also closed down.

How Long Is The Harmony Road Construction Happening?

The City of Fort Collins says construction will happen Monday through Friday from 7 am through 7 pm and will last about six weeks. They also mention that there is a possibility that hours could be extended and weekend work could also happen to expedite the project.

Seems like with such a major road, in one of Colorado's largest cities, this would have been better suited to happen in the evening and overnight hours to help traffic and the effects of the local business on that stretch of Harmony, but I'd assume they had their reasons for completely destroying traffic along Harmony Road. It's advised to use alternate routes to avoid the current construction zones.
