A Windsor resident and Johnstown fire chief is "soothing" the COVID-19 blues by playing his bagpipe on the Poudre Trail nightly.

Mike West is the fire chief for the Front Range Fire Rescue in Johnstown and an avid bagpipe musician. He told the Coloradoan that he plays each night at sunset because "It says we put up another good day of fight, and we are ready to put up another day of fight tomorrow."

West is a member of the Colorado Emerald Society, which is comprised of police officers and firefighters from 24 Colorado agencies who play music together.

West told the Coloradoan that his closing number each night "just seems fitting."

“I always end with ‘Taps’ into ‘Amazing Grace."
