Admit it... when you meet someone who's sporting a rock on their ring finger, you size it up. Well, there are several things that that rock says about the marriage. When it comes to popping the questions and "putting a ring on it," is bigger better? According to Elite Daily, there are 5 things your engagement ring says about your marriage.

1.) You have a higher risk of divorce

Expensive weddings often lead to increased financial stress that can add unnecessary pressure on the marriage, even before it starts. Also, in a study by Emory University, they found that marriages were 1.3 times more likely to get divorced when the ring costs between $2,000 and $4,000, compared to when someone spends between $5 and $1,000.

2.) Incorrectly, the value of the ring is associated with the value of the relationship

Unfortunately, as couples are become "jointly" successful in their professional lives, they are beginning to use the price-tag of the ring as a "tangible" representation of their "love."

3.) It symbolizes so much more

It's never a good idea to marry for superficial reasons. You know what they say about a man and his "trophy wife" or expensive sports car. Now just take that and turn it into a ring.

4.) Is it's important to you to flaunt your rock?

Sometimes it's ok to take off the ring... when you're working out at the gym, deep sea diving, mud wrestling... you get the idea. However if you refuse to take it off no matter what you're doing so that you can show it off. You may be wearing it for the wrong reasons.

5.) Can you split it? Yes you can

Many couples are beginning to split the cost of the ring... what ever happened to the element of surprise? Either way, the intention of "splitting" the cost is not to just get what you can get. The intention is to get the "biggest" rock that you can, so you can show it off to friends and enemies alike.

However you feel about it, I found a great video that explains how engagement rings are a scam... but good luck trying to convince your significant other of this.  BTW, this video is NSFW due to language.
