Fox

The world had been fascinated by Ylvis' viral video hit, 'The Fox (What does the fox say?)'. (You can watch it below, but fair warning, even if you hate it you'll probably have it stuck in your head all week.)

Now, I've never actually heard a real fox make a noise,, but I'd fairly certain they don't say, "ring a ding ding ding ding da ding" or "wa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pow", so I did a little YouTube sleuthing to find out what sounds a fox really makes.

According to TheFoxWebsite, "Foxes are mostly silent animals but this does not mean they do not have a broad repertoire of sounds. A wide range of calls is used from cubs' small barks asking for their mother's attention, to warning calls, to barks and screams performed to locate another fox or a mate."

Here are a few videos of actual fox sounds I found on YouTube:

The Ylvis song provides these answers as to what a fox says:

Gering-ding-ding-ding-ringer-dingering
Wa-po-po-po-po-po-pow
Hatee-hatee-hatee-ho
Joff-tchoff-tchoffo-tchoffo-tchoff
Chacha-chacha-chacha-chow
Fraka-kaka-kaka-kaka-kow
A-hee-ahee ha-hee
A-oo-oo-oo-ooo

After hearing a few of the real fox sounds, I guess not all of those lyrical interpretations are too far off base.
